This is a picture book that reinterprets Korean folklore through the lens of the writer, Baek Heena. It portrays the character not as the "Stepmother" but as the "Aged Woman." In the heart of a bitter winter, the "Aged Woman" tasks Yeon-i with venturing into the snow-covered fields to retrieve lettuce. Shivering in the cold, Yeon-i stumbles upon the residence of the Willow Bachelor in a cave. The Willow Bachelor warmly prepares a meal for Yeoni and offers her some lettuce. Upon Yeoni's return with the lettuce, the "Aged Woman" becomes suspicious and begins to follow her.
